The walking
We offer guided and self guided
walking holidays based in the province of Minho
Northern Portugal
details on this page.
A six day walking
programme, with an average daily distance of about 8 miles, offers you
the opportunity to undertake circular walks in pleasantly contrasting
areas of Minho. You will follow coastal paths; climb gentle mountain
slopes; pass through riverside vineyards and explore ancient woodlands.
You will be impressed with the wealth of isolated historic buildings and
the abundance of bird life. Most of the walking will be in and around
the Lima valley.
The
Area
Portugal has had
very long associations with Britain which probably explains why British
and English speaking people always seem even more welcome than others.
Our chosen destination, the Minho region, is particularly famous for its
wine production but it deserves equal acclaim for its delightful
walking. This is an area of gentle rolling hills, peaceful, ancient
villages with their unique churches and beautiful riverside landscapes.
Quality wines and food, with fish a speciality, will add to your
pleasures.
The
centres
Our walking holiday is based on two centres
in contrasting settings. The first three nights are spent in Viana do
Castelo, famed for its historical centre and coastal position. The town
was founded in 1258 and boasts a fine 15th century cathedral. The final
four nights are taken in Ponte de Lima, Portugal's oldest town which
dates back to Roman times and is a real delight to explore with many
excellent restaurants on the banks of the Lima.
Guided walking
Your friendly
English guide is an expert on Portugal which she has adopted as her home
for the last 7 years, a far cry from her native Norfolk. She delights in
sharing with fellow walkers the joy she has for Portugal and the Lima
valley.
We have two guided walking dates
available.
Self guided
Detailed walking
notes are provided together with useful information on the area. The
itinerary is the same as the guided option.

Ponte do Lima you stay in an ancient manor house that is in keeping with
the ancient town. Breakfast and six packed lunches are included in all

wet with Atlantic winds keeping temperatures down. Spring is warmer and
